UP Tacloban commemorates Eastern Visayan Martial Law martyrs

UP Tacloban faculty and students honored the memory of those from/in Eastern Visayas who fought against Martial Law in “An Pulong Diri Napapugong: A Protest Poetry Performance” held on 24 September 2024 at the Multi-purpose Building.
The event was part of the UP community’s Day of Remembrance 2024.

Professor Emeritus Merlie Alunan reads her poem "The Bells Count in Our Blood" in memory of Father Rosaleo "Rudy" Romano.
Assistant Professor Antonino de Veyra reads Simeon Dumdum, Jr.'s "Third World Opera" in honor of Ambassador Eduardo Torcelo Quintero.
Associate Dean Arvin de Veyra reads David Genotiva's "Debelopmental nga Istorya" in honor of Oscar "Oca" Diamaro Francisco.
Associate Professor Ladylyn Mangada reads Rosario Cruz Lucero's "Escalante" in memory of Asuncion "Sister Ason" Cabanas Martinez.
Division of Social Sciences faculty member Rogene Ramos reads Virginia Moreno's "Perfume Prayer" in honor of Baltasar "Bal" Alido Pinguel.
The audience watches and listens to Greg de Leon and the University Symphony Orchestra's rendition of the song "Awit ni Bobby” in honor of Bobby de la Paz.
