06 December 2024

On 9 and 23 November 2024, UP Tacloban’s Ugnayan ng Pahinungód conducted specialized literacy enhancement activities for Mamanwa community members with reading difficulties and children aged 6-10 in Brgy. Guirang, Basey, Samar.

Twenty-five out-of-school youth and adults participated in sessions led by Pahinungod student volunteers focusing on alphabet familiarization, tracing exercises, and practicing filling out basic forms, such as applications for a PSA birth certificate. Mamanwa children engaged in group reading sessions and interactive activities like flashcard recognition games, storytelling, and coloring exercises.

These literacy sessions are part of the ongoing UP<3ME (UP Loves Municipality Empowerment) Literacy Program, a public service initiative of UP Tacloban through Ugnayan ng Pahinungód. The sessions aim to enhance reading and comprehension skills among identified learners in partner communities, including Brgy. San Juan and Brgy. San Pedro in Sta. Rita, Samar and the Mamanwa community in Brgy. Guirang, Basey, Samar.
