The Philippine Economy During Martial Law: Was it Really the Golden Age?

UP Tacloban’s BS Economics program and Economics Society held the 5th Oikonomia forum, “The Philippine Economy During Martial Law: Was it Really the Golden Age?” on 13 September 2025 at the AS Conference Hall. Dr. Jan Carlo Punongbayan of the UP School of Economics examined the Marcos-era economy, using facts and data to challenge prevailing myths and insights drawn from his book “False Nostalgia.” The forum coincided with the 53rd commemoration of the declaration of Martial Law in the Philippines.
