Public Health Advisory | Influenza-like Illness (ILI)

23 October 2025

Influenza-like illness (ILI) cases typically increase during this time of the year. Most cases are mild, but infections can spread quickly in schools and workplaces.

Common symptoms include:
  • Fever
  • Cough
  • Sore throat
  • Body pains
  • Fatigue
Prevention
  • Wear a face mask especially in crowded places.
  • Wash your hands frequently or use an alcohol-based sanitizer.
  • Cover your nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing.
  • Avoid touching your face, especially your eyes, nose, and mouth.
  • Get vaccinated against flu.
Management
  • If you have ILI or any respiratory symptoms:
  • Stay home to rest and isolate.
  • Wear a mask at all times.
  • Consult the UPTC Health Services Unit or any medical professional for assessment and appropriate management.
  • Persons exposed to individuals with ILI but without symptoms may continue to attend work and classes.
  • Individuals who have recovered from ILI can go back to work or school one day after the fever has resolved without medication (e.g. paracetamol).
