On October 18, 2024, UP Tacloban College, in collaboration with the Quantum Computing Society of the Philippines and the Department of Science and Technology-Advanced Science and Technology Institute (DOST-ASTI), successfully hosted the Quantum Computing Hackathon 2024. Students from UP Tacloban’s Computer Science and Applied Mathematics programs and participants from other schools gathered for a morning seminar featuring talks from industry experts.

Mr. Elmer C. Peramo of DOST-ASTI shared progress on iTANONG 2 and other AI and machine learning technologies developed by DOST-AST
In the afternoon, seven teams from UP Tacloban College, Visayas State University, AMA Computer University, and Philippine Science High School – Eastern Visayas Campus competed in a series of quantum computing challenges.
The competition culminated with the announcement of the following winners:
Champion: UP Tacloban Team 2 - Dwayne Cabrigas, Shann Ripalda, Gian Renomeron | Coach: Mr. Allan Fritzgerald Amistoso
1st Runner-up: VSU Team 2 - Paul Naval, Keith Valdeo, Martin Ybas | Coaches: Mr. Rodney Maniego Jr. and Ms. Joy Espinosa
2nd Runner-up: UP Tacloban Team 1 - Norman Eulin, Honneluv Labanan, Gabriel Badeo | Coach: Mr. Allan Fritzgerald Amistoso
The winners received cash prizes of ₱10,000.00 for the champion, ₱7,000.00 for the first runner-up, and ₱5,000.00 for the second runner-up. Each team also received a plaque, medals, certificates, and DOST-ASTI merchandise.
